Question 1

My child just came out to me and I am having difficulty processing this... Am I welcome here?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We hope our ministry will be a safe place for you to meet other parents/family members who are on the same journey. We are each at different stages of the journey and learn from each other in a culture of respect and love.

Question 2

I'm not “out” to my community (about my child's identity or my own). Is it safe for me to join your group?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We are sensitive to the stages of this journey. You are welcome to share as much or as little information about yourself as you want. We hope to be a refuge for you.

Question 3

I'm a LGBTQ person myself. Am I welcome here?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely! While our group is primarily intended for parents and family members of LGBTQ persons, we also have many LGBTQ individuals who participate. ALL are welcome. We also have LGBTQ persons on our leadership team.

Question 4

Do you have any special resources for parents/family members of transgender and gender non-conforming persons?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We are blessed with a small but mighty group of parents with transgender children and non-binary children, including parents on our leadership team.

We have also been fortunate to hear personal testimonies from trans persons at our retreats and other meetings. From them, we have learned much about resilient faith and trust in God.

Question 5

What philosophy does FFF subscribe to regarding LGBTQ persons?

Accepted Answer

We believe God intentionally created LGBTQ people and wants them to live a full life as a child of God made in God’s image. We believe the Church should be a home for LGBTQ persons exactly as they are and that we are all invited to God's unconditional love through our baptism.'

Question 6

I’m at peace with both my LGBTQ family member and the Church. Will I still benefit from your group?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Many of our parents and family members are in the same place, and all benefit from the ongoing shared connection and community of our group.

Question 7

My spouse and I are not on the same page when it comes to accepting our child. Can we still join your group?

Accepted Answer

This is more common than you think. You are welcome in our group, whether one or both of you attend. We embrace people wherever they may be on this journey.
